A career in construction is not just another job; it’s a promise for an exciting and challenging future. It’s a chance to make a difference!

Learn more about the Construction Career Path

Follow these easy steps:

Step 1 - Your first step to an exciting career in construction is a high school diploma. And while you're earning that diploma, you could start earning a real paycheck! Just ask your vocational teacher how you can enroll in a School-To-Career program.

Step 2 - Enroll in a vocational construction program when you graduate high school at your local technical or community college. With just one to four years of specialized education beyond high school, you can start a career in your craft trade of choice. You can also enter the construction workforce and attend your employer’s training program.

Step 3 - If you do decide to go to college, there are many four-year colleges that offer undergraduate degrees in construction-related fields. You can study such fields as architecture, construction law, planning or scheduling just to name a few. Many project managers, engineers and estimators also have college degrees.

Step 4 - The highest level of construction education is the graduate degree. A Master's degree is one path to a career in executive management. Many architects and engineers have graduate degrees. And if you decide you'd like to become a college instructor, you should pursue a graduate degree.

By working with your parents and vocational counselor, you will be able to design your own career plan. And in many cases, if you are already employed within the construction industry, ask your employer if they provide financial assistance towards your education or they may even have their own training program.
